Matthew P. Snow

Raised in Connecticut, Matt has been a resident of Virginia since 1993. He came to Virginia after high school to attend the College of William and Mary.  After keeping busy as both a college student and captain of the Men's Swimming and Diving Team, Matt went on to attend law school at the University of Richmond. There he was an active law student, earning memberships on the Moot Court Board and Trial Advocacy Board and serving as Executive Editor of the Journal of Law and Public Interest. While in law school, he also worked as a law clerk to the Richmond City Attorney's Office and served as a Teaching Assistant to now retired Virginia Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Lacy.

Matt began practicing law in 2000 as an Assistant Public Defender with the Loudoun County Public Defender's Office. Over the course of his 3 years with that office he defended hundreds of criminal cases, ranging from misdemeanor crimes and traffic violations to violent felonies such as robbery, rape, drug distribution and murder. After establishing himself as a Senior Assistant Public Defender, Matt moved on to join a private law firm in Manassas that practiced local government law. There Matt prosecuted misdemeanor offenses for the towns and cities in Prince William County, and handled civil litigation for the firm involving issues such as contract disputes, zoning enforcement, employment matters, school law and defended local government clients against personal injury claims.

In 2004, Matt partnered with Buta and the current law firm of Biberaj & Snow, PC was born. Colleagues from their days as Public Defenders, Matt and Buta share a vision of delivering honest and straightforward legal advice to their clients.  The strength of their extensive trial experience provides both Matt and Buta with the necessary skills to effectively and diligently represent their clients.

On the civil side of his practice, Matt counsels individuals and small businesses in connection with civil litigation, collections, contract issues, and wills and trusts work.  Matt handles appellate matters as well, with experience in conducting civil and criminal appeals petitions and arguments to the Virginia Court of Appeals, including the recently published opinion of King v. King, 621 S.E.2d 159 (Va. 2005).  In addition, a state-certified Guardian ad litem for children, Matt is often called upon to serve as a court-appointed Guardian for abused and neglected children and children who are the subject on ongoing custody disputes.

In the other half of his practice, Matt maintains an active criminal defense caseload, calling upon his significant experience defending clients in juvenile delinquency cases, drug offenses, traffic offenses, and severe felony and sex offenses.

Matt is an active member of the local legal community, and along with being a member of the Loudoun Bar Association, he heads up the Loudoun County Criminal Defense Bar and is a member of the prestigious American Inns of Court, George Mason Chapter.  Matt is Chair of the Loudoun General District Court Bench-Bar Committee.  Matt has been a yearly participant as a mentor or mock-trial witness in the "Leadership in the Law" Camp held each summer for local rising high school seniors.

Matt devotes a significant amount of his personal time to helping youth and the disadvantaged in the local community:

  • He currently serves as Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors for Community Residences (CR), a local non-profit organization that provides support services for the mentally disabled, and which is best known in the community for its group homes that it operates.

  • Matt serves on the Board of Directors of the Builders Foundation, Inc., a local non-profit organization that provides financial support to the disadvantaged children and families in the local community, and which has been a longtime supporter and contributor to the Loudoun Special Olympics program.

  • Matt is a member of  Leadership Fairfax, Inc. (LFI), and a graduate of their community leadership program, the Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI).  ELI is a year long program of leadership training with the purpose of developing the skills of the next generation of leaders in our region.  Now, as an ELI graduate, Matt continues to participate in the planning and administration of this important program by serving as Chair of the ELI Program for the 2008-2009 year.

  • Matt is a member of the Loudoun County "Beat the Odds" Committee, which raises money and awards financial scholarships for secondary education to at risk youth who have demonstrated significant personal and academic achievement by overcoming life obstacles such as family break-up, abuse & neglect, substance abuse, and poverty.

  • Matt formerly served on the Loudoun County Community Services Board (LCSB) for 3 years, an appointed board of Loudoun citizens who oversee the administration of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services in the County.

Matt, his wife and daughter reside in Loudoun County with their two dogs.
